Jean Cocteau introduced Picasso to André Breton along with his surrealist circle. This portrait of Marie-Thérèse Walter holds most hallmarks of Picasso’s group of nudes influenced by his youthful fan: lyrical curves, joyous colours, ornamental patterning and an emphasis on the woman defining blond locks.
